Festivities include Vendors, Art Competition, Live Music, and more!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

(Foley, Alabama) – Cast your cares away — the 3rd annual Caribbean Day is back and bigger than ever! Back for 2022, Caribbean Day is an OWA summer favorite, with fun components sure to keep all ages and interests enthralled. Whether you’re a music lover, an appreciator of art, or love some good, family-friendly fun, Caribbean Day at OWA is where you want to be on Saturday, July 16, 2022.

Don’t miss the incredibly talented Junior, Youth and Pro artists showcasing their talent on the sidewalks of Downtown OWA. Our sidewalk chalk art competition is always a crowd favorite, and we invite artists of varying age groups to compete for cash prizes! Categories for the 2022 Sidewalk Chalk Art Competition include Pro (18+ years old), Youth (10-17 years old) and Junior (4-9 years old). Over $2000 in cash prizes will be given out in total, so if you know someone who is a talented sidewalk chalk artist, be sure to let them know about this exciting opportunity today! Applicants are required to pre-register online at VisitOWA.com by Monday, July 11, and day-of registration will not be permitted.

Come sway to the breeze and experience the rhythms of traditional Caribbean music as you try your hand at the annual Afro-Cuban drum clinic, beginning at 5pm near the Spice & Tea Exchange. Grab a cold beverage to go from your favorite Downtown OWA restaurant and head over to OWA Island for live music from Sandy Roots at 5pm, showcasing their unique blend of rock, reggae, funk, and country. Flip Flop Republic takes the stage at 8:30pm and promises to take you away to a place where you can free your toes and free your mind.

Keep your eye out for Caribbean-style stilt walkers dancing through the streets of Downtown OWA while you shop local vendors. Bring your friends and family and enjoy complimentary activities like a hula hoop contest, sand art, and face painting. There’s something for everyone to enjoy at this tropical celebration!

Experience Tropic Falls new indoor waterpark, a variety of delicious restaurants, and unique boutiques for a full day of summer fun before the celebration kicks-off. Hours and dates for all activities are subject to change. Detailed information and a full schedule of events can be found online at VisitOWA.com.

About OWA Parks & Resort: Award-winning OWA Parks & Resort in Coastal Alabama is owned and operated by the Poarch Band of Creek Indians.  OWA’s name is derived from a Creek word for “big water,” and the tropical theme of the 520-acre property was inspired by the Gulf of Mexico, minutes away via the Foley Beach Express.

At the heart of OWA is Tropic Falls, which includes a 23-ride theme park, outdoor wave pool and the region’s largest indoor water park—bigger than a football field and covered by a convertible roof. Just outside the ticketed areas is Downtown OWA. This pedestrian-only streetscape was inspired by Southern small towns and features numerous options for dining, shopping, and entertainment.

The destination resort offers a full calendar of events, from Downtown OWA’s own Mardi Gras Parade to the annual Christmas tree lighting with fireworks and snowfall. With its own award-winning TownePlace Suites by Marriott, OWA is the place in Coastal Alabama to thrill, then chill.
