About the Band
Rock and Roll was born in the 1950s, and it features Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, and Little Richard. But as a new decade approached, the fresh and exciting musical style faded. In the early 1960s, it was believed that “guitar groups were on their way out.” However, in late 1963, a band from Liverpool, England, released a song called “I Want To Hold Your Hand” that quickly hit the top of the US charts. This band, called The Beatles, performed on the Ed Sullivan Show on February 9th, 1964, and Beatlemania swept across the country. Immediately following the sudden success of The Beatles, countless bands from the United Kingdom emerged and ruled the Billboard charts for the next few years. This phenomenon simply became known as the BRITISH INVASION.
