The Foley Sports Tourism Complex is home to 16 state-of-the-art multi-use sports fields and the soon-to-be-opened indoor events center. The complex is quickly becoming a hub for regional and national competitive tournaments, such as the Alabama Soccer Festival and the 2016 Sun Belt Conference Women’s Soccer Championship. The facilities have been so successful that they are now booking several years out. The championship field is equipped with TV-ready lighting and stadium seating for up to 1,000. All 16 fields have natural grass, making them ideal for soccer, lacrosse, football and other competitive sports. Baldwin County’s mild temperatures and the complex’s convenient location make the facility ideal for year-round play.
Opening in spring 2017, the Foley Events Center will be a 90,000+ sq. ft., multi-use indoor facility adjacent to the sports fields. The indoor facility will offer ample space for basketball, volleyball, cheerleading, dance and gymnastics competitions. Being a multi-use facility, the Foley Events Center also will be able to accommodate banquets, conventions and trade shows.
The Foley Sports Tourism Complex was recently chosen as a 2017 Reader’s Choice Award winner by the SportsEvents Media Group. And Sports Tourism Director Don Staley said the sporting events from November 2016 saw record numbers for the facility.
“Our preliminary counts look close to 12,000 total visitors generated just from our November events,” Staley said. “This solidifies what we set out to accomplish almost three years ago … first class facilities, southern hospitality, a great experience for the players, coaches and fans … when the City of Foley got into Sports Tourism. November has historically been a sleepy tourism month here, so the impact of these events are gratifying.”
